Sr. Joan Marie Coleman, OSF

Sr. Joan Marie Coleman, OSF served as parish bulletin preparer and secretary. She also offered a monthly parish CCD program in the parish hall of St. Patrick. She taught Latin at the Hinton High School which was then located on Fourth Avenue in Hinton. Sr. Joan served well in many ministries of St. Patrick when Fr. David Schmitt was pastor. She left St. Patrick approximately in the year of 1994.

She then went to another ministry calling at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in South Charleston.

Celebrating her 50th Anniversary

Sister Joan Marie Coleman, OSF, is a member of the Sisters of St. Francis, Holy Name Province of Stella Niagara, N.Y., and is a native of Charleston. Throughout her ministry, Sister Coleman taught various subjects in grades six through 12 at both Catholic and public schools in New Jersey, New York, Ohio and West Virginia. She is best known for teaching Latin.

Sister Coleman currently broadcasts "Distance Learning Latin" from Nitro High School to several other high schools in Kanawha County. The American Red Cross recently awarded Sister Coleman her 10-year service pin for her work as a volunteer. (source: The Catholic Spirit, August 21, 2009)
